information

feminine — starts with a vowel or h, so the article elides to l’information and hides the gender

The rule

Nouns ending in -ation are feminine in 100% of the 1,122 such nouns in our corpus, and information is one of them.

Others ending -ation: abdication, aberration, abjuration, ablation, abnégation, abomination, abrogation, abréviation

Genders come from a corpus extraction (Lexique383), and the percentages above are measured against that corpus rather than quoted. Nouns the corpus leaves genuinely ambiguous — livre is both le livre (book) and la livre (pound) — have no page here at all, because showing one of two right answers as if it were the only one is worse than showing nothing.
