CompMeIn Platform Agreement

Version 4 · Effective 2026-04-13

This is a binding agreement between you and CompMeIn Inc. ("CompMeIn", "we", "us"), a Canadian corporation. By using any part of the CompMeIn platform at compmein.com (the "Service"), you agree to all the terms below. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. CompMeIn is not intended for minors. If we learn a user is under 18, we will terminate the account immediately.

2. Account Responsibility

You are responsible for all activity under your account. You must keep your credentials secure and not share your account, tokens, or API keys with anyone. You must not create accounts using automated means or false information.

3. Third-Party AI Processing & Cross-Border Data

CompMeIn is powered by third-party AI providers. When you submit text, images, or videos, that data is transmitted to the following processors:

  • Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini, Imagen, Veo) — enterprise-tier endpoint, processed in Google Cloud isolated environment; not used to train or improve any foundation model per Vertex AI Data Processing Addendum
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — governed by Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, which apply to all API access; your inputs and outputs are not used to train Anthropic's models; logs retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days for trust & safety
  • OpenAI (GPT API) — governed by OpenAI's Business Terms; API inputs and outputs are not used to train OpenAI's models (OpenAI policy since March 2023)
  • xAI (Grok API) — business API tier; inputs and outputs are not used to train xAI's models per xAI Enterprise Terms of Service; User Content is deleted within 30 days unless flagged for safety, compliance, or moderation
  • Kling (LOHAS GAMES PTE LTD., Singapore) — paid API tier used for video generation only; not used for training per Kling API Terms §5.1; data stored in Singapore; logs retained 30 days; parent company is Kuaishou Technology
  • Runway (Runway AI, Inc., United States) — optional video generation provider (image-to-video, video-to-video, motion transfer, video editing). Unlike our other AI providers, Runway's Terms of Use §4.4 grant Runway a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use your inputs (uploaded images and videos) and outputs (generated videos) to train and improve Runway's AI models, with no opt-out available on standard API access. Runway-powered features are disabled by default; when you first select a Runway model in the Video Creation Hub, you will be shown a separate consent prompt and may decline and use an alternative provider (Google Veo, Kling, or xAI Grok) instead.
  • DeepSeek (Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd.) — optional model for Novel Writer. Unlike our other providers, DeepSeek does not contractually guarantee no-training; your text may be used for service improvement at their discretion. Data is processed on servers located in the People's Republic of China. DeepSeek is subject to PRC law, including the Data Security Law and Personal Information Protection Law. DeepSeek is disabled by default; when you first select it in Novel Writer, you will be shown a separate consent prompt.

Some processors are located outside Canada (United States, Singapore, China). Your submitted content will be transmitted across international borders for processing. By using the Service you consent to this cross-border transfer, in accordance with PIPEDA.

CompMeIn's own storage uses Google Cloud Storage (us-central1, United States) with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit. Our infrastructure inherits Google Cloud Platform's SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications.

4. Novel Writer

When using Novel Writer (/writer):

  • You confirm source text you upload is owned by you, public domain, or authorized for translation, adaptation, or polishing
  • Translations, polishes, and rewrites are AI-generated and may contain errors — you are responsible for reviewing output before publishing
  • When source and target language are the same, the tool functions as a polish/rewrite tool rather than a translator
  • Character appearance descriptions and world-building context may be automatically extracted from your text to improve generation quality; this stays within your account

5. Image & Scene Generation

When using image generation (/create, /create/image):

  • You may not generate imagery of real, identifiable persons without consent (see §10)
  • Reference photographs containing human faces are processed as biometric data under laws including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). By uploading a photo with a recognizable face, you confirm you have consent from the depicted person. Face data is used only for the single generation request and is not stored or used to train facial recognition systems
  • You may not generate content depicting trademarked characters or protected IP for commercial use without rights-holder permission
  • Generated images must comply with §10, §11, and §12

6. Video Generation

Video carries heightened deepfake risk. In addition to §5:

  • You may not generate video of real persons performing actions, making statements, or appearing in contexts they have not consented to
  • Video generation uses third-party providers (see §3), each with their own acceptable-use policies
  • You are responsible for adding deepfake disclosure labels when sharing synthetic video of real-seeming people, as required by applicable laws

7. Community Publishing

When posting to the Community area (/community):

  • You grant CompMeIn a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, display, distribute, and moderate your posted content
  • You retain ownership of your original work
  • Publicly posted content becomes visible to other users and may be cached or indexed by third parties — we cannot guarantee removal from external caches
  • You may not post content violating §9–§12, or harass, dox, or threaten other users

8. Monetization — Tips & Paid Content

CompMeIn allows book authors to monetize their work through two mechanisms:

Tipping: readers may send tokens to a book's author as a gratuity. CompMeIn retains a 50% platform fee at the time of transfer; the remainder is credited to the author.

Paid Chapter Unlock: authors may designate chapters beyond a free threshold as paid. Readers spend tokens to unlock them. CompMeIn retains a 50% platform fee; the remainder is credited to the author.

Enabling Monetization (Declaration)

Before enabling tips or paid chapters on a book, you must make the following declarations:

  • The work is your original creation, or you have obtained legal authorization from the copyright holder to publish and monetize it on this platform
  • You have the legal right to distribute and monetize the work
  • You accept full legal liability for any copyright or intellectual property disputes arising from the work (see Author Indemnification below)
  • You are at least 18 years of age

These declarations are binding. Making a false declaration may result in account termination, forfeiture of earnings, and legal action.

Cash-Out

Earnings accumulate in your account after enabling monetization. To withdraw (cash out) your earnings, the following conditions apply:

  • Minimum balance threshold (CAD $25 equivalent)
  • Tax information submission (W-9 for US residents, W-8BEN for non-US; T4A/T5 slips issued where CRA thresholds are met)
  • Platform and Stripe processing fees (deducted at cash-out)

Author Indemnification

If you enable monetization on a book, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CompMeIn Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Any claim that your work infringes or misappropriates a third party's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
  • Any breach of the declarations you made when enabling monetization
  • Any third-party claim related to your monetized content

This indemnification obligation survives account termination.

Tokens and platform credits, once purchased, are non-refundable except where required by law.

9. Copyright & Takedown

You must own the rights to any source text, image, or video you upload, or have legal authorization to use it. You are solely responsible for any copyright claims arising from content you submit.

How to Report Copyright Infringement

If you believe content on CompMeIn infringes your copyright, use the Report button on the post, story, or chapter and select "Copyright infringement" as the reason. Include as much detail as possible about the original work. You may also reach us at abuse@compmein.com.

What Happens After a Report

  1. Our team reviews the report.
  2. If we determine the content is infringing, we remove or disable access to it and notify the uploader.
  3. The uploader may submit a counter-notice with evidence that they have the right to use the content.
  4. If the counter-notice is valid and the complainant does not pursue legal action within 10 business days, we may restore the content.

10. Real Persons — Defamation, NCII, Deepfakes

You may not use the Service to generate, upload, or distribute defamatory, harassing, or sexually explicit content about real, identifiable persons — including celebrities, public figures, and private individuals — without their verifiable consent.

This includes:

  • Non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII), prohibited under Canadian Criminal Code §162.1
  • Deepfake videos that could reasonably deceive viewers
  • False statements presented as fact about identifiable persons (defamation)
  • Sexual or romantic content involving real, identifiable persons

11. Hate Speech & Illegal Content

You may not generate or distribute content that:

  • Incites hatred or violence against protected groups (race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability) — prohibited under Canadian Criminal Code §318–320
  • Promotes terrorism or terrorist organizations
  • Constitutes criminal harassment or threats
  • Violates applicable export-control or sanctions laws

12. Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) — Zero Tolerance

CSAM, including any sexual or suggestive content involving minors — real or fictional — is strictly forbidden. There are no exceptions. Violations result in immediate permanent ban and mandatory reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and relevant local authorities. We cooperate fully with all law-enforcement investigations.

13. Reporting & Content Review

CompMeIn provides an in-app Report button on all user-generated content (posts, stories, chapters, comments, images, and videos). You may report content that you believe violates these Terms, including but not limited to copyright infringement (§9), content involving real persons (§10), hate speech (§11), CSAM (§12), spam, scams, or misleading content.

All reports are reviewed internally by our team. We aim to review reports within 48 hours. Abuse of the reporting system (e.g., filing false reports to harass another user) may itself result in account suspension.

14. Enforcement — Strikes, Suspension & Termination

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to remove content, restrict features, suspend, or permanently terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Actions depend on the severity of the violation:

Copyright Strikes

Each valid copyright complaint results in a strike against the uploader's account. Strikes expire after 90 days.

  • 1st strike: Warning. Some account features may be temporarily restricted for 1 week.
  • 2nd strike: Unable to upload or publish content for 2 weeks.
  • 3rd strike: Account permanently terminated.

Immediate Termination

The following violations result in immediate permanent termination without warning, refund, or appeal:

  • CSAM or content sexualizing minors (§12)
  • Terrorism promotion
  • Doxxing or credible threats of violence

Other Violations

For violations of §10 (real persons), §11 (hate speech), or other Terms breaches, we may at our discretion issue warnings, remove content, disable monetization on affected works, temporarily suspend, or permanently terminate the account based on the nature and severity of the violation.

Appeals

Enforcement decisions may be appealed via abuse@compmein.com, except in cases of CSAM, terrorism, or active criminal investigation.

15. Data Retention After Deletion

When you delete content or your account:

  • Content is removed from active storage within 7 days
  • Backups retain deleted content for up to 90 days for safety, legal, and audit purposes
  • Moderation logs and records of reported violations are retained longer where required by law
  • You may request full account deletion at any time via contact@compmein.com; we will delete your data within 30 days except where retention is legally required

16. Prohibited Jurisdictions

Users located in jurisdictions subject to Canadian or United States sanctions are prohibited from accessing the Service. This includes but is not limited to Russia, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, and certain regions of Ukraine. This restriction is required by our upstream AI providers and payment processors.

17. No Warranty; Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated outputs will be accurate or fit for any particular purpose.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CompMeIn's total liability arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid to CompMeIn in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, or special damages, including loss of data, profits, or business opportunity.

18. Governing Law & Terms Updates

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, unless applicable consumer-protection laws require otherwise.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will increment the version number and require all users to re-accept before continuing to use the Service.

By clicking "I Agree", you confirm that you:

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have read and understood all sections above
  • Agree to be bound by these Terms
  • Consent to cross-border data transfer to the processors listed in §3
